AMTA-SC Community Service
The AMTA-SC chose to work with the Muscular Dystrophy Association in 2010. We have made a good start with the raffle that was held at our Spring Mini Convention in Greenville, we raised $550 by raffling donated items. It was a win-win-win situation! Everyone was thrilled with the raffle items, and the Muscular Dystrophy Association will benefit from the money. And AMTA-SC gets to "give back" to our community. If you have any fund-raiser ideas, let us know - it would great to be able to give more to this worthy cause.
In 2011, our Community Service Outreach organization will be ERMI - Emergency Response Massage International. This is the organization that coordinates Massage Therapists to go to help support Emergency Response Personnel in times of crisis. Our own Ronda Villa is the SC Coordinator and National Treasurer for ERMI and would love to talk with you if you would like to get involved - ronda@amta-sc.org .
AMTA-SC is also looking for a Community Service Chairperson, someone who is interested working as liason between the charity of the year and the AMTA-SC Board. Contact Rena McLendon, President - rena@amta-sc.org if you are that person!
Mini-Convention Highlights
The AMTA-SC Spring Mini Convention was held in Spartanburg, in March
2010. We were excited to offer classes by Internationally-known
presenters James Waslaski and Dr. Steven Blair; as well as Robert
Wootten's Thai Massage, and Ethics with Gay Barefield and Ann Blair
Kennedy. We were able to once again give great member discounts - the
price per credit hour was incredibly low! And Dr Blair's class on
Health and Fitness was free with any other class registration. The buzz
in the hallways was that people were excited to get back to their
clients and use what they had learned - immediately!
SC Members - Positive National Recognition for South Carolina!
Every year, at AMTA National Convention, we hold the House of Delegates Meeting. One of the things that happens is that Position Statements are submitted, discussed and voted on. Position statements approved by the House of Delegates immediately become official views of our association. All six of the Proposed Position Statements for 2010 the House of Delegates to consider this year were written by our Immediate Past President: Ann Blair Kennedy. Way to go, Ann!!! To read and comment on the Proposed Position Statements (which all members are encouraged to do), or to learn how you can use position statements, go to:
